A rough looking finish or specking is generally caused when the material is not wet enough to allow even flow out after it’s been applied.

Too much atomization air or poor operator technique can cause this problem.

Reducing the amount of atomizing air or decreasing the tip pattern size can fix this problem.

Adjusting the gun to part distance can also improve this condition.

Possible Reasons

Too much atomization air

Too much fan pattern adjustment

Too much distance between gun and part

Best Solution

Decrease air pressure

Decrease tip pattern size

Adjust gun to part distance

Why is It Important?

Increases wetness of the paint on the part

Allows material to flow evenly
