Structural bonding methods are replacing or complementing mechanical fastening methods like riveting, welding and screwing in tier one automotive manufacturing. Adhesives are a faster, cleaner and more lightweight solution for bonding aluminum, steel and composites.
Structural Bonding for Tier 1 Automotive Applications
Proper material dispensing and distribution can determine the quality, safety and structural stability of the car body. This makes consistent flow and precise bead dispense control important.
- Flow Control: Changes in flow rate of the material will cause the material to be dispensed at different quantities, ultimately compromising the quality of the bond. Supplying the applicator with consistent pressure and flow of material creates repeatable and consistent application of the bonding material.
- Precise Dispense: Precise application of material is important to ensure a proper bond of two components. Applicators should be able to accurately dispense material in the minimal amount of passes to limit rework and increase production time. This is accomplished by analyzing desired spray patterns, and understanding the versatility of the applicator.
