Yes, a cross reference sheet is available with the recommended replacement for each of the original Max pumps.

No. Due to feedback from customers, the new pump uses an LCD screen with a menu that can be navigated for programming - making it easier and more intuitive to program. Please refer to the videos above for some examples of how to program the G3 Max Gen 2.

 

The flow rate, pressure rating, and duty cycle are all identical. Because of the normally open vent valve, the current will be higher for any system that connects a vent valve, an air solenoid or anything else to the "V" M12 output. For systems that don't use the "V" output, the electrical ratings are the identical to the original Max.

Yes, the new pumps work with our solid state switches, as well as dry contact switches such as 557741.

No, not at this time. Currently only one cycle input, or one pressure input, can be used to monitor the metering system.

No. Due to customer feedback, we learned of many limitations of Bluetooth connectivity. For wireless connectivity on the Max Gen 2, we opted to develop cellular data connectivity instead. The data is accessible through our Graco Trace cloud site, glc.gracotrace.com, for the pumps with the cellular option included.

Yes, the cellular option is available for grease pumps in 12V or 24V DC, or 90-240V AC (single phase). Oil pumps are offered with 24V DC or AC only.

Yes, the Graco Trace website allows users to sign up for text messages and email messages. The user can choose to be notified by email, text, or both when Alerts or Alarms occur. A weekly digest is also available, which sends a report of the status of all of the pumps to which that users has access.

The applications are nearly limitless because the cellular data would benefit almost anyone who already owns a G3. Some specific suggestions are hard to reach areas like overhead cranes, conveyors, gantries and lock-out-tag-out areas. Even if a pump is not hard to reach, someone with a lot of pumps could save a lot of time by monitoring them remotely instead of checking on each one every day. With the typical maintenance department facing staffing issues these days, which is only getting worse, the time savings alone would give them a nice return on investment. Distributors who provide maintenance-as-a-service can also benefit from the remote connection because it would allow them to monitor pumps at multiple locations all at once.

If any facility struggles to cellular coverage inside of their facility, signal boosters can be purchased on Amazon for $100 to $200, and they are very effective.

Yes, there is a small fee for each pump. The fee is charged to a credit card. In order to access the cellular data, an "Organization" must be created on our Graco Trace website, glc.gracotrace.com, and a credit card must be provided at that time. The fee will be a recurring charge for each pump. Each Organization can specify if the fees are to be billed annually or monthly. Whoever pays this fee owns the Organization, and that person controls who else can access the pump data.

The Gen 2 pumps are configured for use with Normally Open vent valves. This means that the vent valve needs to be energized while the pump is pumping the oil or grease. For that reason, it could be used to open an air solenoid instead. A normally Closed air solenoid will open the air flow while it's energized. This is useful for systems that use air to spray oil or grease, because the pump can control the air solenoid, and therefore the air flow is stopped between lubrication events.

Additionally, the "Dwell Time" feature in the Gen 2 pumps can be used to allow the air to continue running for a short time after the pump stops pumping. This can serve as a purge time to clean out the spray nozzle.

Wiring is fairly simple because M12 cables normally follow standardized color codes. On the ""V"" port:

  • Pin 3, the blue wire, is 24VDC+ (for both 24 VDC and AC voltages)
  • Pin 4, the black wire, is ground.
